Managing Honey Bees!

  • 27 Crow Hill Rd Ancram, NY 12502 United States (map)

Join us at Wally Farms for a hands-on workshop designed to demystify the art and science of keeping honey bees. Whether you're thinking about starting your first colony, already have a hive or two in the backyard, or simply want to understand these remarkable insects more deeply, this workshop will give you practical knowledge you can put to work right away.

We'll start with the fundamentals: honey bee biology, the social life of the colony, and how a healthy hive actually functions through the year. You'll learn to read the seasonal rhythm of beekeeping — spring buildup, the summer honey flow, fall preparation, and winter survival — and we'll talk through the real decisions a beekeeper makes at each stage.

You'll get a close look inside a working colony. We'll cover how to inspect a hive with confidence, identify the queen, read brood patterns, and recognize the early signs of trouble. Expect an honest conversation about mites and integrated pest management, along with practical guidance on feeding, swarm prevention, splitting colonies, and knowing when and how to harvest honey.

This workshop is designed for beginners and intermediate beekeepers alike. No prior experience required, just curiosity and a willingness to get a little sticky.

What to Expect:

  • Build a hive body, frames, and foundation

  • Honey extraction

  • Hive health evaluation

  • Q&A throughout!

  • Honey tasting and honey for sale after!

Space is limited. We hope you'll join us!
